AA MERE THELE PE BAITH JA

Other day at Bombay central railway station when Rajdhani Express train arrived from Delhi (Rajdhani Express train by far is the most prestigious train in the fleet of Indian Railways) a lady alighted from air conditioned coach and engaged a coolie. She inquired whether she could get a wheel chair for her co-passenger, an aged and infirm man.Coolie unruffled and cool as cucumber indicating towards his push-cart (hath-thela) suggested “sit on this itself” They were perplexed, to say the least. Man preferred to drag himself by and by towards the Exit with the help of a walking stick, he was carrying.

High time we introduced a HELP LINE so that a passenger requiring ambulance/stretcher or wheel chair could book/request for one at a fix rate. Passenger does not mind paying, he does mind the way he is treated. As in this case coolie just made him feel that he was no better than a luggage piece.

P.S.
Railway does have wheel chair and stretcher at railway stations but less said better it is.
